travel information

getting here

Roquecor is in the heart of south-west France — beautifully remote, which is part of the magic. Here are all the ways to get there, whichever suits you best.

Via Bordeaux
~1H15 DRIVE · RECOMMENDED
Ryanair · easyJet · British Airways

Ryanair from Stansted — most frequent and cheapest.
easyJet from Gatwick.
British Airways from London City — once a week.

Bordeaux is the closest major airport to Roquecor and our top recommendation. Passport control is famously fast — you'll be through and on the road quickly.

⚠️ Watch out: the first road out of the car hire exit is briefly on the left-hand side. Don't panic — just remember to move back to the right after.

🏨 Arriving late? We recommend the Eklo Hotel Bastide in Bordeaux city centre — around £60/night including breakfast. Park free at the nearby Carrefour underground and head to Roquecor fresh in the morning. It's about 25 minutes from the hotel to the airport, then 1h15 to Roquecor.

Via Toulouse
~1H30–1H45 DRIVE · MORE FLIGHT OPTIONS
BA · easyJet · Ryanair · Jet2

British Airways from Heathrow — daily.
easyJet from Gatwick and Bristol.
Ryanair from Stansted and Manchester.
Jet2 from various regional UK airports — great if you're not near London.

Slightly further drive than Bordeaux but a bigger airport with more frequency, more airlines, and more UK departure points. A great option if you're flying from outside London.

💰 City tax: if you're staying overnight in Toulouse, both cities charge a small tourist tax — a few euros per person per night, added to your hotel bill.

Via Bergerac
~45 MIN DRIVE · CLOSEST AIRPORT
Ryanair from Stansted

Ryanair from Stansted — a couple of times a week.

The closest airport to Roquecor by far — just 45 minutes away. Flights are limited so it depends on timing, but absolutely worth checking first. A tiny, quick airport with no stress.

If you can make the schedule work, this is the easiest arrival of all.

🚂
By Train
GREAT IF YOU'RE IN FRANCE ALREADY
Eurostar → TGV → Agen

Eurostar from London St Pancras → Paris (~2h15), then TGV from Paris Montparnasse → Agen (~3h). Agen is the closest train station to Roquecor — about 45 minutes' drive away.

🚗 Car hire at Agen station: Avis, Europcar and Sixt all have desks directly across the street from the platforms. Easy to pick up and go.

A brilliant option if you're already travelling in France beforehand, or if you prefer trains to airports. No luggage restrictions, city-centre to city-centre, and the TGV south is a great journey.

By Ferry + Car
THE ROAD TRIP OPTION
Brittany Ferries · Portsmouth or Plymouth · DFDS or P&O · Dover to Calais

Portsmouth → Santander (~24 hrs) or Plymouth → Santander (~19 hrs) with Brittany Ferries, then a beautiful 4–5 hour drive north through Spain and across into south-west France.

A proper adventure — perfect for anyone who wants to make a holiday of the journey, bring loads of luggage, or avoid airports entirely. Book cabins well in advance as summer sailings fill up fast.

Not the quickest option, but possibly the most memorable one.

Alternatively — take the Dover → Calais crossing with DFDS or P&O (just 90 minutes!), then drive south through France — around 8–9 hours to Roquecor. A great option if you want to make a road trip of it without the long sea crossing.

🚗
Car Hire Tips

You'll need a car — Roquecor is wonderfully rural with no public transport.

Cheaper hire companies won't accept Amex, Monzo or Revolut for the deposit. You need a Visa or Mastercard credit card (not debit), physical card only — no contactless for deposits.

You will encounter quite a few toll booths on the route south. At most, you take a ticket as you enter and then pay by card at the next toll — have a physical card ready as Apple Pay and contactless are not always accepted.

🧴
Liquids at Security

Gatwick & Heathrow: you can now take up to 2 litres in hand luggage — no need to book a checked bag just for toiletries.

Manchester, Stansted, Luton: still on the 100ml rule — liquids in a clear bag.

Flying home from France: French airports are still on the 100ml rule on departure, so pack liquids in your hold bag on the way back. Hopefully all the sun cream will have been used up!

The Hill

Roquecor sits at the top of a steep hill and some accommodation is at the bottom. We strongly recommend not walking up or down — there are hidden corners, no separate pedestrian path, cars use it regularly, and it is genuinely dangerous at night.

Please arrange a car or a lift rather than attempting the hill on foot. We will help coordinate — and it all adds to the adventure!

🏨
Arriving Late?

If you're getting into Bordeaux late and don't fancy the 1h15 drive to Roquecor in the dark, we recommend Eklo Hotel Bastide in Bordeaux city centre.

Around £60/night including breakfast — really lovely. Park free at the nearby Carrefour underground, then head on your way fresh the next morning.

FAQs

Got a question? We have probably answered it below. If not, drop Katie or Joe a message.

getting there
We have a whole section dedicated to this — head to getting here for all the flight options, driving routes and travel tips.
Yes — there are no taxis and no Ubers in this part of France. A car is essential. The good news is that hire cars are much more affordable when shared, so we would suggest splitting one between the people in your Airbnb.

Important: please do not hire an electric car. Charging points in rural Tarn-et-Garonne are very limited and you could find yourself stranded.
There are quite a few toll roads on the route south. At most booths you take a ticket as you enter and pay by card at the next toll — make sure you have a physical card to hand as Apple Pay and contactless are not always accepted.

We also recommend bringing some cash for things like the local market and smaller purchases along the way.
THE WEDDING
Each day has its own dress code:

Thursday — Préambule: Get your glad rags on! Cocktail dresses, heels, your finest — this is an occasion to dress up and enjoy it. Not quite as formal as the wedding day itself, but absolutely an evening to make an effort for.

Friday — Cérémonie: Wedding attire. Light, breathable fabrics are essential as it will be 28–34°C and we will be outside for the entire day. Please think very carefully about your footwear — the reception is on grass and hard ground, the grass will be cut short, but stilettos and narrow heels will be uncomfortable over a long evening of dancing. A block heel, wedge or flat is strongly recommended. Our bridesmaids will be in brown tones, so please avoid those shades for the Friday.

Saturday — La Reprise: Relaxed and casual. More details to follow closer to the time.

One small request: our bridesmaids will be wearing brown tones, so please do avoid those shades on the Friday. We want everyone to look and feel their best — and that means no clashing with the bridal party!
Not at all — we completely understand that not everyone can make the full weekend. The only truly unmissable day is Friday, the Cérémonie. But we would absolutely love to have you for as much of the weekend as possible.
We will be outside for the entirety of Friday so please bear that in mind when planning your outfit. The day begins with a church ceremony and drinks to celebrate in the village, followed by a 13 minute walk to Phil and Lis' house for dinner, dancing and the main party. The walk is mostly flat and downhill but ends on gravel — please bear that in mind with your footwear.

Lots of water will be provided throughout the day. You do not need to bring any food or drink to any of the three days — we have everything covered.
Please keep your phone on silent throughout the church ceremony. Our photographer will be capturing every moment so you can relax and be fully present.

After the ceremony, please do take photos and videos! We are planning to make a video from everyone's clips after the wedding. Please upload your photos and videos to our shared album — link coming soon.
Thursday (Préambule): Park freely on the streets in Roquecor or in the village car park.

Friday (Cérémonie): Park in the village for the ceremony. If you would prefer to drive to Phil and Lis' house rather than walk from the village afterwards, there is parking approximately 150 metres from the house. Lifts will also be available for anyone who needs them.

For those who are drinking on Friday evening and are not able to walk home, we will have transport arranged. Do not worry — no one will be left stranded.
ACCOMMODATION
Do not panic. There may be spare spaces in other Airbnbs in the group, and there are also hotels nearby that can be used if needed — slightly further from Roquecor but perfectly fine as a backup. Just get in touch with Katie and we will work it out together.
Of course — but just run it past Katie first to make sure the property you have your eye on has not already been allocated to someone else. Drop Katie or Joe a message and she will let you know straight away.
If something goes wrong with your property, go ahead and find an alternative and let Katie or Joe know where you end up staying. She will help however she can.
PRACTICAL TIPS
The closest pharmacy is in Montaigu-de-Quercy, a short drive from Roquecor. They speak a little English so do not worry too much about the language barrier.
There is petrol available at the Intermarché supermarket in Montaigu-de-Quercy. Worth filling up there rather than relying on finding a station closer to Roquecor.
